Hand-knotted, finished with soft tassels and a little star at the top, Mamajo's MAE Christmas Tree is a small handmade Christmas decoration made for hanging around the home — by the doorway, along a hallway wall, beside the tree, or in one of those little corners that could use a touch of Christmas.

It isn’t about everything being perfectly uniform. The charm is in knowing that every knot was made by hand, by a person, slowly. And perhaps that is what HEIRLOOM is really about too. The things that carry a little bit of somebody with them.

This one began with my mama.

For most of her life, her time and hands were spent looking after my sister and I - raising us, caring for the family, and doing all the chores & ordinary things that only become extraordinary when we grow older (and now a mom myself) and realise just how much of herself she gave.

Now that we’re all grown up, she finally has a little more time to herself. And somewhere in this new season of her life, she picked up macramé. She learnt the knots, played with different patterns, unravelled things that didn’t quite work, and slowly started making little pieces with her hands simply because she enjoyed it.

This Christmas tree is one of them.
